O.K. folks, it's here, Super Tuesday commenth Feb.5, 2008 and it's all about you plus your vote. Due to my hectic scheduling, I've already cast my vote in early voting, but if you were just to busy, didn't know where to go, forgot or somehow didn't realize that you could early vote. Tomorrow is your time to join the democratic process of making you choice for the candidate for which you believe can take the helm of this nation and bust a move for the better. Ladies and Gentlemen and all those who have'nt decided, the time is now to select a nominee to go to the mat in November for the general election. I encourage all of you to get the polls early, take a friend, notify your neighbor, tell a stranger, but of things, get out and vote like your life depends on it! It's just that important. HIV Task Force Re-do: In a previous post I explored the recent announcement of the newly created HIV-AIDS task force appointments from Gov. Beebe. The vibe that I'm getting is that many in the HIV-AIDS community and beyond are not overly enthusiatic with the choices or skeptical of the mission of this group. Now, let's be clear, there was a process, however I cited that it was a bit awkward in my opinion, but a "search team" was formed and they sought out candidates statewide. The ultimate question that must be addressed is if those who are dissatisfied with the final choices, contacted other possible choices to pursue this commission. I've stated in the past and I stand firm, that the destiny of any issue relies on the those who participate in the process. That means, either step up, show up or shut up. It's just that simple, people. In full disclosure, I was contacted about serving on the this task force, however, I declined due to other obligations. As we continue to bring you breaking news about us and for us, this forum was first in bringing the formation of this group to the table for discussion. For the record, I got "crickets" which means silence. Included in this posting is a reader response on the issue. It's unedited and unfiltered. As usual I encourage you to share your views, rants, two cents or thoughts with us any old time.

In reference to the Governor's HIV Task Force which is being put together. After reading the names of the newly appointed panelist, I am saddened. Several of those listed I hold in high esteem, others are certainly questionable. I also find a lack of "community voice", those living with the disease. Many community activist/advocates such as Eric C, Bob C, Rick R would certainly add valuable input, along with several others scattered across our state. In my opinion, those living with HIV/AIDS , would indeed add value and sincerity and knowledge to the group. By adding Case Managers and State pay-rolled members and Doctors in the mix, we will only end up as we have in the past, moving slowly and missing valuable input from those that actually live and suffer daily. We once again end up with the same ole, same ole.

It's underway, the history making political showdown of the 21st Century. In this corner, the Bouncing Obama, with his recent cash dash of 32 million and counting. Who needs a stimlus package with these kind of dead presidents floating around? In the opposing corner is Hillary "in it to win it" Clinton Tag team featuring Former President Bill Clinton. Apparently, the possible "First Man,"got the kitchen so hot that folks from every where was screamin foul and calling out Mr. Clinton with a fury.It got to be just too much for John Edwards that he just made an exit by "suspending" his campagin with his cash haul still in tact. So did Giuliani who decided that his florida firewall wasn't up to snuff and he bowed out to the land of Schwarzenegger. Meanwhile, John "I'm not dead yet" Mc Cain has emerged as the GOP frontrunner by trumping his fellow competitors twice in a row in a giddy fashion. Ladies and Gentlemen they're falling by the way side slowly but surely and it's not even Super Tuesday. As I've said before, it's going to be a barnburner including last eve's Republican Debate with the rest of field putting each other on the hot seat about everything from Iraq to abortion. Tonight, the Democrats take it to the mat with both Clinton and Obama vying to take it to the next level. Woosh! Talk about thunderdome politics in America. Before you take your seats, go early vote. Immaculate Cure: I received an e-mail from one of our intrepid readers inquiring about a YouTube viral video citing that a popular gospel singer was "cured" from his HIV diagnosis with help from on high. Apparently, Dwayne Woods tested positive, then somehow was absloved of the virus from his body which he attest was due to his faith connection and a penned tune entitled "God Still Heals." More Bounce to the Ounce

Are you ready community? If you are saying ready for what? Then most likely you might not be ready. The time is near for Super Smackdown Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008 as the political cycle shifts into high gear with a free for all national vote-a-thon. From coast to coast, the polls will be teaming with the democratic process in full tilt. It's gonna be a barnstormin, roof raising, cauldron stirring mash up that will send forth the possible nominees for President. In the meantime, "wait there's more," more news, commentary, links, video, pods and concerns that are coming out of shoots across the board. Let's jump into the fray....

Where's the Day Center?: It's the $64,000 question or is that $50,000 of the city of Little Rock. Why is the proposed "day center" for the homeless taking so long to become a reality despite that fact that a "homeless Czar" was hired some time ago? Again, the wheels of city politics are just stupfying and seemingly stalled in fact finding as cited by a online E-blast from frustrated proponents which also have presented Mayor Stodala and City Manager Moore. A subsequent Wednesday(1/30) 8:30 a.m. news conference is scheduled on the steps of City Hall . From the onset, I was a bit aprehensive when the city announced the hiring of Mr. Jimmy Pritchard, but seem to have little else in place such as a clear development timeline. From my vantange point, the entire project has been mired in "gobbley gook politics." You know those do nothing excuses such as, "this meeting we will postpone, the next meeting it's been tabled or the next meeting we are deferring to the next meeting." What seems to be going on here? Is the city serious about this issues or are just paying lip service. I'm dumbfounded that this city can't seem to get moving in a more timely fashion vs. meandering with study groups, consultants, meetings and tideous posturing. I'm posting the online petition that is circulating and encourage you to call the Mayor's office and ask What's Up! This is unedited and is soley the opinion of the of the homeless coalition:

We urge the City of Little Rock [and whoever receives the contract to provide Homeless Day Resource Center] to move as quickly as humanly and legally possible to open the Day Resource Center. We are both the homeless themselves and those care about and provide services to the homeless. We speak for hundreds of individuals contributing and receiving services. We have been involved in homeless problems and solutions for a number of years. We ask a number of questions below. Your answers could go to the media. We read the papers.
The City of Little Rock 10-Year Plan Committee worked in 2005 and 2006 to produce the 10-Year Plan for the Homeless, which in Dec 2006 called for a Day Resource Center to be in operation in July 2006. It is not in operation. It has been repeatedly postponed. The Mayor, before the Homeless Coalition in early November 2007, said he hoped to have a Day Resource Center in operation in December 2007or in early January 2008. It is not in operation. It has been repeatedly postponed. The Mayor’s Commission on Homeless voted in November to move forward with a RFP – Request for Proposals – for an existing provider to run a Day Resource Center. The RFP has just been issued. The timetable promises more delay : Proposals Due by 4:00 p.m. February 13, 2008. Board of Directors awards contract March 4, 2008’ Why 3 weeks? ‘Contract negotiation begins After award’ Why negotiations? How long? Awardee has 30 days after Contract finalized? Could it be in full or partial operation any more quickly?

Bouncing O: Presidential Candidate B.Obama is "bouncing" again from his win in South Carolina into the next debate go- round this week with top tier contenders, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards. Of course there's been much talk about former President Bill Clinton's stepped up rhetoric and "call out" of the Senator's paper trail. Oh really? Isn't this par for the course in American politics? Have we forgotten, Nixon's dirty tricks or those 524 Swift Boat attacks on John Kerry in 04. This is gladiator politics that has been a staple of the American body politic from the nation's inception. Nasty, yes. Factual, often not. The Presidency, Priceless.

Fast, Furious and Fabu in Cyberbland

It's here again, another freefall friday round up of the items that made the cut for this posting. As you recall, I spoke about the fact that my E-box runneth over and it hasn't ceased. While editing and deleting, I found some interesting items that should be put on front street, ASAP. Therefore, without further delay, here we go...

From the Which way is up file: I got a forward from BC, a front line volunteer and HIV advocate who is in search of updates and info. Every time I read items of this nature,I'm alway befuddled as to why current changes or movements in obtaining assistance seems buried in a hole somewhere. BC had questions concerning updated regulations about dental assistance, upgraded thresholds of income requirements, lab submission and other "nuts and bolts" of staying in the medical loop. The inquriy net was cast wide ranging from State Health Department officials, Capital Hill operatives and anyone who could sift some info. What's going here? Why are individuals always on the hunt for the most up to date info about RW assistance in this area? The frustration level is got to be taxing to say the least. In response to this inquiry, I plan to do a little research my self to see if I can obatin some answers. If you have updated info, portals, websites or anything else let us know.

Ignorance is vulgar and colorless. I am deeply insulted by the arrogant ignorance of those who excused (and continue to attribute) Bill Clinton’s vices to his being the “first Black president”. I am even more deeply offended by rabid Barack Obama fans who now dare to call the allegedly “Black” Bill a white racist.There is nothing exclusively Black about poverty or adultery. There is nothing uniquely racist about Bill’s successful white male presidential legacy. Those who are truly honest about politicians understand that character has no color. No singular race can claim any monopoly over ethics.I will vote for Hillary Clinton because she is the best person to become president. I choose her in defiance of shrewd, racist, and sexist Republikkkans who are PRAYING that Obama will be selected as the Democratic nominee.Republikkkans know that most American voters are white racists. They know that their party has been so fractured and poisoned, by the toxic legacy of President Select King Shrub/George W. Bush, that only strategically controlled racism can fashion mandatory triage in November.I believe that a vote for Obama is a vote for a Republikkkan president in November. I refuse to be a color blind co-conspirator in that nightmarish scenario…My ideal winning ticket would be Clinton-Obama. But, I doubt that wish will come true, because ego and sexism are both far stronger than pride and racism…

Politically Speaking Volumes...part 2

Can you feel it? You say what is that I'm suppose to be feeling? Well, it's the electricity in the air of "change," "uncertainty," and uneasiness bubbling just beneath the surface. Are you sensing that somethings is going on out there in the nether lands? Is that a hell yeah? Then you are not alone as we continue sifting the wheat and chaff of news and issues affecting the GLBTQ community and beyond. Here we go...

And the Panelist are...: Last year I posted several times about the Governor's HIV task force that was being put together in reference to legislation ( Act842 0f 2007) that passed in the previous session. I'd contacted administrative aides for information on the process and possibly contenders. However, after a lengthy wait, I didn't' get those details, but was advised of the process. In full disclosure, while I was inquiring I was invited to submit my name for consideration. However,"thank you very much" my plates pretty full, furthermore I've spent many hours in "meetings" that I can't really remember amounting to much. Therefore, I respectively declined. Yet thanks to one of our readers, I was forwarded a news release naming the newly appointed panelist along with their observations on the selection. The panelist are as follows: Johnny Adams of Chidester, Rueben Arana of Little Rock, Rick Collins of Little Rock, Carol Davis of Malvern, Chinetta Davis of Pine Bluff, Youmna El-Sabaa of Little Rock, Sharen Lightsey of Pine Bluff, Sylvana Niciteretse of Pine Bluff, Dr. Barbara Perry of Little Rock, Lupita Roy-Rasheed of Little Rock, Tere Roderick of Tillar, Vickie Gibbs-Scott of Crossett, Dr. Michelle Smith of North Little Rock, Gail Stephens of Pine Bluff, Dr. Katherine Stewart of Little Rock, Dr. Wallace “Al” Thomas of Hot Springs, Dr. Wynona Bryant-Williams of Little Rock, Suzann Wilson of Jonesboro and Sue Worsham of El Dorado. According to the mandate, this group will hold forums in each congressional district seeking public input on the incidence of HIV and AIDS and the effectiveness of prevention and outreach programs. Subsequently the group will be filing a "findings and recommendations" report due Nov 1 to Gov. Bebee and the other usual suspects, House and Senate leadership and the State Department of Health. The reader posed several questions such as that many on the committee might seem overly "academic?" how many of those chosen were offered by the Citizens First Congress recommendations and that the list perhaps was lacking "community voices." Ummmm? While researching this task force, I was made aware that the process, although awkwardly open in my opinion, was indeed open for any individuals to submit there qualifications for consideration. As for those "CFC "recommendations, all I can wonder is how many of those on their list actually submitted information for the process. Meanwhile, who at the CFC was charged with urging their suggestions to place their names for consideration in a timely manner. As for those "community voices?" I'm again stumped at exactly who these voices are suppose to be. After all, I'm always in search of these mysterious voices that I can't get to comment here in this forum, be interviewed, or speak on the record about much of anything. I only get comments when these voices feel I've "gone to far" in calling folks out or spotlighting shortcomings. In 2007, I recall that I was charged with "being divisive and rumour mongering?" Who me? In closing, I have high hopes for this task force and look forward to their report on HIV in Arkansas. In the meantime, any of those voices out in cyberland or any where else who want to share there two cents. I'm always waiting and ready any old time.

Yes, we're back at it. The schedule caught up with me, other matters needed my attention, stuff got in the way, throw the King Holiday into the mix and I was like that lost in space robot spewing, "warning, danger ahead!" However, I pulled it all together and rebooted myself into a different mode in order to keep forging forth with news, commentary, links, updates, video, and tidbits of interest to the GLBTQ community and beyond. O.K. let's jump back into the fray...

The political landscape was in overdrive the past few days from coast to coast, however the upcoming South Carolina primary is going to be hotly contested as witnessed by last evenings Presidential debate. The Tri-Fecta: Clinton/Obama/Edwards is in full effect as they pour over their records, differences, past legislation, speeches and whatever is left to talk about. Can you say perhaps the Issues? as most citizens are saying, "it's all about the Economy, Healthcare, Education." Yet, in my opinion in order to make a viable choice we must take a hard look at the distinctions and track records to make a informed decison. Often that may take an ugly turn, but it's politics baby at it's rawest form. On the GOP front, John Mc Cain, continues to emerged from the pack with his SC win as other contenders continue to jocky toward Super Duper Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008. Ladies and Gentlemen, prepare yourselves because, it' ain't over till it's over. Get out the placards, man the phones, call a friend, volunteer or tune out. It's your choice America. How you participate is up to you, O.K.

National Convention & Me: Since we are talking politics and contributions, I wanted to update you readers on my quest to attend the Democratic Convention in Denver this Aug. Of course, I got to selected as a delegate first, but if I play my cards right we will get that chance. Welcome Back LRP: After a brief hiatus, the website LittleRockPride.com has resurfaced and refreshed it online look. The site features profiles, links( unfortuantely this blog seems to be missing?), ads and other items related to the GLBTQ community. According to a recent E-blast, "...It's more simplified, but you can read more about it on the front page of the site. It's not all the way finished and a few more things will be added, but we are back." I noticed a subscription to a newsletter is available and a soon to be completed calender. Congrats and Kudos to the proudcers and welcome back to the net. The more the merrier is our motto, but it also keeps us on our toes.

OH Larry!: Admist all the hoopla with the current election cycle dominating the scene, we need another diversion and the ongoing saga of Larry Craig continues. It seems that embattled Senator Craig is adamant that his plea be withdrawn, even though the judge doesn't seem to having or hearing it. As well as, he is insensed at further swirling allegations published by the Idaho based newspaper, The Statesmen. "Like its previous coverage, these latest allegations are completely false and have no basis in reality," Craig said in a statement issued by his office. "In fact, the paper itself states that these baseless accusations contain no definitive evidence, yet they still decided to print them anyway." Craig who once said he would step down, has all but refused to do so, meanwhile his Capitol Hill colleagues are staying out of the fray. Talk about wide stances with staying power...Craig's got that Effie/Dreamgirl attitude of, " and I'm telling you, I'm not going!"

LGBT Families Ask Six Mega-churches 'Can We Talk?'

The letters invite their congregations to collaborate in creating opportunities for meaningful conversations. Over the next several weeks, staff from Soulforce, UFMCC, NBJC, and COLAGE will negotiate peaceful forums with members from each of the congregations.
Then, over the weekends between Mother's Day (May 11, 2008) and Father's Day (June 15, 2008), dozens of families with children will travel by air and by bus to engage in dialogue about faith, family, and the harm done by religion-based discrimination to LGBT families.
"It is difficult for mega-churches to claim to be progressive in the area of Civil Rights and at the same time deny the equal dignity and value of LGBT persons," said Rev. Dr. Ken Samuel, pastor of the 5,000 plus, LGBT-friendly, Victory Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
Samuel will join Rev. Jay Bakker, son of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, as a clergy leader on the American Family Outing.

I retorted, "well... what would you have me to do, just one item, a picture, one paragraph or what? The look on his face was,"I dun't know?" I thought," you dun't know?" Mmmm? Maybe there's something to that dumbing down of America thing afterall. Anyway, I digress. O.K. Let the chips fall where they may...



FrontRunners & Dropouts: In our last outing, I mentioned that many U.S. citizens have already tired of the current political slugfest that going on live and in color almost 24/7. So far the body count includes the drop outs Biden, Richardson, Tancredo, Vilsack, Brownback, Gilmore,Thompson, Dodd and this week the fallout should get higher after the Michigan primary. Meanwhile, those at the top of the heap, keep on heaping it on each other with negative ads, somewhat negative attacks, broad statements and those mysterious 527 groups who throw rocks on behalf of their candidates. Then, they staunctly deny that they represent them. It's the big top world of rock-em, sockem "Let's elect the leader of the Free World." If didn't register earlier this month, then you are just out of luck for the Super Duper Primary on Feb. 5. If you are poltical junkie or just want to see what the hoopla is all about, I would like to recommend a great site, http://www.squidoo.com/ Of course each candidate has his or her savvy site but this one has a bullseye on it including a Bill Richardson Diner clock for purchase. Bouncing "O" get's Bounced: Talking about tounge waggin, it's Rosanne Barr's shooting from the hip Tah Tah while somewhat dissing Miss Oprah about her political juxtaposition to that other "O," Barack Obama. On her website, Barr takes OW to task and calls it like she see's it or sort of anyway. I guess since she has nothing else to do and no one is calling her for any serious work, she's got to do something with her life. She's entitled to her opinion and free speech just like everyone else. So take it for what's it worth and discuss it amongst yourselves. Here's a bit of her madness for your consideration:

Surges, Bounces, & More...part2

According to a Pew poll, Most Americans have already tired of the current political cycle. The report states that many of those polled,( and I was not one of them...) stated that they couldn't really name a Republican contender or those lesser known Democratic challengers. However, Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama were the most familiar, while Mike Huckabee's name came up among Republicans. Were these folks no watching none of those fancy debates? Wow, all this "I'm over It attitude" and we've not even moved into the mainstream of the race yet. Of course, polling got an "F" for it's recent dissing of Hillary Clinton in the New Hampshire primary, in which she was deemed to be a looser by a considerable margin. But she came away a winner as pollsters everywhere are tyring to explain themselves and their so-called methods. Meanwhile this forum has featured many poll questions on a variety of subjects but to my chagrin and consternation the response has been marginal. Yet, polling does have it's upside, when trying to capture data or trends to demonstrate interest in a product, program or need. Unfortunately, in Arkansas the GLBTQ community we've been lacking in establishing a true data base that would be beneficial in dealing with corporate sponsors, advertisers or donors. This especially certain if such data exisited for non-profits or Pride Week activites. GNB (Gay News Bureau) a few weeks ago observed that American Airlines has a GLBTQ Team that is dedicated to serving the Multi-Million dollar travel sector of the community and posed a question as to why the Eureka Springs Convention folks wouldn't get the hook up to a national carrier that offers service to the Northwest Regional Airport in response to those Diversity outings. I said it before and I'm saying it again, there are many opportunities that are being missed because they are not being researched or utilized acorss the board. Ah Shucks, I've had problems with getting this forum linked to the other media outlets or like minded sites in this state due our frankness and calling em out approach. Have they not heard of the First Admendment or is it just too hot in this kitchen for thin-skinned people. Well, get ready because the heat commeth for 2008. Futhermore, I'm often perplexed with how to reach more of you, garnering your response to our postings, our adsense ads or any of our tracking methods which allow us to monitor growth, if any. Apparently, I've got to continue to step up my game to get some respect around here. So, here we are trying to stay ahead of the curve in an climate of surges, bounces and so much more....

TV's -R-US: Here we go again with more questionable government spending that may end up being a boodogle in it's attempt to help folks in that other digital divide. It' seems that Millions of $40 government coupons became available January 1st to help low-tech television owners buy special converter boxes for older TVs that might not work after the switch to digital broadcasting. I bought a fancy new HDTV set but realized that I would have to pay "extra" to get anything in HDTV. Say what? I don't need a converter box, just more cash if I want to be digitized because my Comcast package doesn't include that tier or something like that. Anyway,
beginning Feb. 18, 2009, anyone who does not own a digital set and still gets their programming via over-the-air antennas will no longer receive a picture.
That's the day the television industry completes its transition from old-style analog broadcasting to digital. Confuse yet? Wait, there's more....
The converter boxes are expected to cost between $50 and $70 and will be available at most major electronics retail stores. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration has begun accepting requests for two $40 coupons per household to be used toward the purchase of the boxes.
Viewers who have satellite or cable service will not need a box. Yeah, that's where I fall, just more cash to be entertained by more needless channels that I don't watch or those multi-sports channels that feature "cage fighting" or other obscure sports that I'm not sure why they exisit.
To request a coupon, consumers can apply online at http://www.dtv2009.gov starting 1/2/08. The government also has set up a 24-hour hotline to take requests, 1-888-DTV-2009 (1-888-388-2009).
Congress, in ordering the transition to digital broadcasting, set aside $1.5 billion for the coupon program, which will fund 33.5 million coupons and other costs.
The giveaway basically works under the honor system.
The first 22 million coupons will go to all households that request them. That includes a residence that gets cable service for one television but has a spare TV that still uses an antenna, for example.
The rest of the coupons, however, are meant only for those who do not subscribe to a pay-television service. Maybe we could auction a Hope Katrina Trailer while giving away these coupons.

Relationships 101 part one

With all the political going's on, I thought a diversion was in order in answer to those of you who have inquire about relationships. This week I celebrated my 14th anniversary and let me tell you that it ain't all been a bed of roses. I found this item from our online partner Kuttinedge Associate Editor, Wyatt O. Evans( pictured). In the next few weeks, I plan to offer a few more relationship articles for those forlorned, seeking their next partner or dealing with the one you've got. I know many of you have decided that you will find that special someone in 2008 and we hope to offer you some thoughts and insights on the process. Happy hunting!

Several months ago, one of my buddies (I’ll call him “Emilo;” he’s African-American and Puerto Rican) came to me for relationship advice. At first (because I’m currently single), I didn’t really think I was the “go to guy” for that. However, I decided to give it a shot. Besides, Emilo thought that my short stint on a counselor’s couch would come in handy. (I’m not “touched”--by any stretch. Seriously. Smile.)

Let me tell you about Emilo. He’s an articulate, sensitive, passionate, and fairly communicative man. His significant other, “Tank” (That’s his real nickname; he’s Black), is sort of a “tough guy”--and not as emotionally open.

The two have been a monogamous couple for a little more than three years now. According to Emilo, for about six months or so, Tank just hadn’t been his usual attentive self: infrequent romantic gestures, fewer surprise calls during the day, etc, etc. Tank also had forgotten a couple of important milestones in the relationship. My bud was beginning to feel taken for granted.

And as far as Emilo was concerned, the worst part was that their lovemaking had become less than inspired. He felt that somehow, a lot of the passion, zing, and intensity had been sucked out of the relationship. “Where the hell did it all go? What happened to the romance?” he groaned.

So, our conversation went something like this:


“Emilo, have you sat down with Tank and really talked about how you really feel?

“Uh, yeah. I mean, I’ve tried.”

“C’mon now, E! ‘I’ve tried?’ You need to do more than that!”

“Well, Wyatt, I’ve been afraid to put it all out on the table. What if he’s cheating?”

“Do you know that for sure? Papi, you’ve ‘gotta’ find out what the real deal is.”

(A lengthy silence.)

“Okay. Maybe it’s just work or ‘sumthin’. He does have the boss from hell.”

“See?”

“But Wyatt, you know how Tank can be. Sometimes, it’s difficult for him to completely open up.”

“But E, you need to know.”

“’You’re right. I’ll sit him down and see ‘wassup.’”

Fortunately, he heeded my counsel. And come to find out, Tank had been severely stressed out at the job for quite awhile. And the good news: he wasn’t being unfaithful.

To “jump start” their “sitation” (situation), the couple saw a relationship counselor for several sessions. Best thing they could’ve done. If they didn’t know it before, they learned that a successful, effective relationship requires work (lots!), nurturing, compromise, patience, understanding…and romance.

Tank and Emilo then began to re-inject the romanceinto their relationship. I’ll share with you some of the “tactics” they employed to accomplish just that.

But first, what exactly is that “thang” called romance? Well, according to
L. A. Hunter, romance expert and author, it “is the creation of an atmosphere where he feels unconditional love and appreciation. You can turn down the lights, turn on the radio, take him by the hand, and ask him to dance in the kitchen. That’s romance.”

Hunter continued. “At that moment, he is the most important person in the world, and feels appreciated and loved.”

The expert added, “The passion and excitement he will be feeling for you not only manifest itself in sex but will also spill over into other aspects of the relationship. Sometimes it takes a few romantic encounters to get the best results—he may not be used to it, he may have been hurt by you and think you’re only doing it for sex. Hang in there, the payoff is within reach.”

Another romance expert, Samuel Stoddard, weighed in. “Being romantic is hard work. Some people think that romance is easy, that anybody can be romantic with very little work. This is not true.”

But hey, my “brothas”—don’t despair! Your man Wyatt is on the case. The following are suggestions from Hunter and Stoddard (some of the ones which Emilo and Tank used) as to how you can get your romantic juices flowing. (Afterwards, I’ll share with you how I flex my “romance muscle.”)

‘Aight.’ Here goes:

Give teddy bears. What a cute romantic gesture!

Turn the lights down low. Stoddard explains, “Candles are romantic. Sunrises and sunsets are romantic. Any kind of low light, you see, is romantic; hence, why dinner dates after dark are more romantic than lunch dates at noon.”

Do it up in RED, baby! Red is romantic because it’s the color of love and passion.

Don’t forget the background music. In order for music to be romantic, it must be too soft to hear.

Offer up some chocolates. “When you give a box of chocolates to your beloved, it says, ‘You could pig out on this tub of lard and bloat out to three tons, but you’d still be the apple of my eye.’ It doesn’t matter if it’s true—it’s the message that counts,” according to Stoddard.

Embrace impracticality. Bottom line—practical “thangs” just aren’t romantic.

Make it personal. It’s kind of romantic to buy a “mooshy” greeting card for your “boo”—but to be really romantic, you’ve gotta sign it.

You must remember birthdays and anniversaries. Need I say more? (Nah. Didn’t think so.)

Hook your boo up with a pet name. Stoddard says, “To be romantic, you have to call each other name carefully crafted to make yourself and everyone around you throw up.

Have an evolved sense of style. Like, try to be as suave and debonair as you can.

And probably most importantly-- Give of your time. One of the required and essential ingredients of romance is your time. Point, blank, period! There just ain’t no “gittin’” around it.

All of the aforementioned are part of the strategy I use to pump up my romance muscle.

Additionally, I’m a strong proponent and believer of effective communication. If the two people experience difficulty articulating their feelings, expectations, hopes and dreams to each other, their so-called “relationship” doesn’t have a ghost of a chance.

Since I’m pretty big on giving and receiving cards, I email/mail that special guy cards. Also, I slip one (always with a personal note and signed, of course!) under his pillow. Too, I might plant one in his briefcase.

And, if I’m really moved, I place a thong, a leather jockstrap, or some other type of sexy under gear somewhere in that very briefcase! (Yo—is it hot in here, or what??? Smile.)

Sometimes, during the work day, I email him an invitation to “get horizontal.” Then, there are my “nastee” voice mails. And, a trip to an “adult” store to check out
(and perhaps purchase) the latest items can definitely “rev up our motors”—if you catch my drift.

Now, let’s not forget just quietly kicking back together in the living room with a fire
burning, discussing the minutiae of our days, reconnecting with one another. This very well might lead to retiring to the candle-lit bedroom, which is of the perfect temperature, with just the right amount of incense wafting through—and with, say, Alicia (Keys), or Luther (Vandross), or Marvin (Gaye) and Tammi (Terrell) very, very softly crooning on and on about “luv.”

So, there you have it. Why not make “upping your romance quotient” one of your top New Year’s resolutions? You’ll be glad you did—on many different levels. The payoff is rich and well worth it. “Mos’ Def.”

Does it seem that this bold New Year has taken off in sling shot fashion? Well, if it's not happening in your life, it certainly has been taking place in my own as well as, the production of this forum. I'm known for burning the candle at both ends and adding new task to my already dizzying schedule. Whew, where does the time go, when you are trying to keep on track with the latest updates, links, commentary, video, podcast and so much more here at CorneliuOnpoint. O.K. with all that said, let's go get em!...

Defrosting Hillary: What's all the brouhaha about the "emotional" moment that the candidate had during a campaign stop this week. Is Mrs. Clinton not human? Can anyone tell me that being tested, vetted, compared, reviewed, scrutinized, analyzed and villified not take it toll once in and awhile? For goodness sake, not even armored titan like myself is immune. I have had many moments when potshots give me pause and sometimes a weepy embrace. Despite it's historical significance in which the candidate field is as varied as I've seen in my lifetime, I can't imagine the pressue nor the spotlighting grinder that these individuals go through to reach the highest office stateside. From my vantange point Clinton get's kudos from me for dealing with the "Damned if I do, Damned if I don't" paradgim that has dogged her publically, privately and professionally. It takes a strong women to stay in it to try to win it. Clinton's breif moment of humanity is one that we all share whether we want to admit or not.

ObamaRama: It's voting day in New Hampshire and the "O" Force is raging the machine as candidate Obama is hoping to keep his changing America stomp speech takes him to victory in the Granite state. According to the pundits and observers, it seems that those under 30 are

seeking change and want to participate in the process. Ultimately, what I've heard from many accross the board is the cryptic, "AAB" which translates to "Anybody or Anyone After Bush," Boy, isn't that a mouthful. Therefore, the new yuppies( young urban professionals), guppies( gay urban pros), tuppies( techy urban professionals) are taking it to the streets and it's going to interesting if they make change and are surpisingly disillusioned if things somehow remarkably stay the same. Mr. O has made some broad statement including his recent reach in juxtaposing his speech credentials along the margins of JFK and MLK. Also, he's got a mountain of promises and vision to live of too if he's eventually elected. It's a tall order and if he can deliver then more power to him, However, if things fall short, then he'll find out who his real friends are quickly. American people can love ya one moment and then cast you on the has been pile in a New York minute. Does the name Jimmy Carter stirke a chord? It's an exciting time in the body politic and I'm watching with baited breath as to who will be the nominee. It's gonna be a barnburner at best. If you've not register to vote by now, you won't get to cast your ballot in Super Duper Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008. I'll be there with bells on, will you?

I know everyone is excited about the presidential election. It is an exhilarating time for Arkansas and for our country, but this is a very full election year and we have other things to focus on as well.
We must re-elect Senator Mark Pryor. We must re-elect Congressmen Marion Berry, Vic Snyder, and Mike Ross. We must hold on to our majority in the state legislature and elect more good Democrats to join them in their fight to help Arkansas families.
Enjoy following national politics. I know I’ll be watching to see what happens in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada, and all the other early primaries. However, please keep in mind that the one thing we can truly affect is what happens here in Arkansas.
We will elect a president, we will carry Arkansas’s six electoral votes for our Democratic nominee, we will re-elect our members of Congress, we will retain our majority in the state legislature. This can happen only if we think and act locally. This is where you can make a huge difference in Arkansas’s political landscape.
Many of the Democratic County Central Committees and Democratic Auxiliaries meet monthly. This is exactly what we need you to do. For those of you meeting every month, thank you for staying organized and active. Keep up the good work. If you haven’t done so already, please begin reaching out to your local Democratic candidates. Invite them to attend your meetings and to speak to your members about what they want to do once elected.
Local politics are important. If the Democratic Central Committee in your county has not scheduled a meeting yet for 2008, we need you to get involved. Please plan a meeting as soon as possible. Please let the DPA staff know when and where you are meeting and what you need us to do to help you succeed.
We want to know what is going on in your county. Just send information to info@arkdems.org or call (501) 374-2361 to bring us up to speed on your events.
I have a couple of other things for you to keep in mind as we move through this thrilling year.
Monday, January 7, 2008 is the last day to register to vote in the Presidential Preference Primary to be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2008. If you haven’t registered to vote, please do so immediately.
A few weeks ago, I mentioned that Mariah Hatta is coming on board as the DPA’s chief operating officer in charge of policy and procedure. She will be your point of contact for delegate selection, the filing process, and national convention. We are excited about the experience that Mariah brings to the party. Please feel free to reach out to her, as well as to Amy Kelley, with any questions you may have regarding these issues.
Every race is important to the DPA. We will elect Democrats from the White House to the County Courthouse.

Pageants-R-Us: Yes my pretties, talk about political races, it's that time again for the Arkansas Pageant Season to begin. First up: Miss Gay Little Rock America, 2.10.08, a official prelim to MGAA being held at Backstreet. Check their website for times and registration info. Gather your loins, get your fashion on and get ready for the throwdown for the crown later this year. We'll be covering more about this race on our myspace page in the coming weeks.

A Podcast Welcome to 2008

It's finally here, Ladies and Gentlemen...Welcome to CorneliusOnpoint 2008! The journey through another 365 days to turning a page in time is not only a blessing, but a chance to continue this creative outlet. As you can see, we've shedded our old skin while opting for a fresh look that will be apart of our overall makeover. In 08, I plan to continue my surge graphically, using the latest interactive gizmos, as well as, editorally with more updates, commentary, online partnerships and our unique stamp on what's going on in the world around us. During the last year, I appreciated hearing from all of you and hope that the dialouge will intensify with each posting whether it be controversial or news from the the fringe. Get ready Arkansas, CorneliusOnpoint, is your I-beam to keeping it straight in 08! Happy New Year!!

2007, it was the year that has come and gone. Consequently, I believe that reflecting on the past sets the tone and pace for the future. Pointing the way from 2007

Toss up Thursday and counting...

It's only 4 days to 2008 and we are wrapping up the year with both barrels blazing! It's been a tremendous year filled with change and challenges, all the while churning out what I believe to be our best year of content and graphics. As I reviewed the year's past offerings, I'm just proud as punch about our coverage, perspectives and bold move as Arkansas'only GLBTQ "daily updating" online blog. It's been a labor of love that has taken myself in many directions as I've attempted to keep this forum both interesting and interactive. This year we've added polls, more video, guest columninst, striking photography and gutsy observations about what's really going on in the community and beyond. My committment to excelerating CorneliusOnpoint into new platforms, allowed us to become the first statewide GLBTQ blog in podcasting courtsey of our online partner, EVOCA. Wow!, Wee!, Gee!, what a year 2007 has been for me personally and creatively. I want to thank you all who have subscribed, shared, dared me, acknowledge our efforts and sometimes avoided me as I've tried to keep it real. It's been a good run thus far, and I want you to get prepared for what's coming next. In closing, "ain't no stopping us now..!"

Polls-R-Us: A poll here, a poll there, a poll everywhere...Those damn polls that keep asking us stuff. Yes, this forum was on the poll bandwagon this year and if you participated wonderful. If not, well we needed your imput. In our last outing, I wanted to discern what the readers wanted from this forum and if we were providing it. Bless those few souls who took the time to speak there two cents by telling me that our coverage is basically, "thank you,very much," doing a bull's eye for those who subcribe or click in. I was pleasantly surprised, but appreciated knowing that the many hours it takes to produce this weblog is resonating across the board. As usual, I implore you dear readers to share your thoughts with our next poll, or suggest a poll question to us.

Admiring Who?: According the latest USA Today/ Gallup poll of the most admired folks in the land, believe it or not, Hillary Clinton comes out on top along side President Bush. For the record, I was not among the those polled and I would really like to know how this random method is done. Neverthless, the list is populated by talk queen, Ms. O. Winfrey, Billy Graham, Barack Obama, Al Gore, Queen Elizabeth, Mike Huckabee, Angelia Jolie and a host of other notables. Who did you admire for 2007? Share it with us and we will post some of the findings in 08.

Calling Out the Dirty Laundry: I wanted to share this Editoral from our online partner, KuttingEdge composed by Doug S. Cooper. I found it quite interesting and thought provoking about another religious faction that is causing a stir in the land. I'm not sure if this movie is slated to show in the area, but we will be highlighting the variety of issues at the intersection of religion and gayness.

Well there you have it. Dr. Bobby Jones is being called on the carpet by some Christians for his appearance in the movie, ‘Dirty Laundry’. The group, Gay Christian Movement Watch, is calling on Christians to boycott Bobby Jones (pictured) for appearing in a movie that affirms a gay lifestyle (even though the movie is really about a black family learning to love each other in spite of their many differences). But not only is Bobby Jones on notice, black gospel music as a whole is being called down front.
Now I don’t know too much about Bobby Jones. But from what I’ve gathered from friends and from reading about him, he does seem to take an affirming stand when it comes to embracing gays and lesbians, and this bothers some. However, Dr. Bobby Jones is not the only black minister who has taken such a stand. Michael Eric Dyson, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Joe Lowery, Desmond Tutu, Peter Gomes, Carlton Pearson, Calvin Butts, and the list goes on, are all black ministers who hold a view of God that is affirming of homosexuals. There is even an annual conference addressing homophobia in the black church that has been attended by some of these ministers. It’s called The Black Church Summit.
But what perplexes me about this whole mess is:

1). Why is the Gay Christian Movement Watch so disturbed by gays and lesbians being viewed in a positive light? As a gay man, living my life really should have no residual effect on them unless they allow the mess that they-- or others before them-- conjured in their own heads to vex them; and 2). Why would people who profess the love of their religious founder, Jesus the Christ, have problems with people like Bobby Jones, who seeks to live the love Jesus set forth?
If I recall, Love is supposed to be the ultimate task we’ve been given to endure on this earth. Therefore, it would seem odd to fight against those who teach love and understanding simply for the sake of disrupting and destroying the lives of those who pose no threat, but do not share your belief.In the end, all of this leads me to wonder whose sin is this really?
