The Catch Up Roll Out

PFLAG Programs Film Presentation

Did you know that there was a PFLAG chapter in the city? No. Well if you didn't now you do. PFLAG is the acronym for "Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays," which is a support entity for attendee to share their issues, challenges, triumphs and some times tragedies.

The local group meets monthly and now has embarked on offering a film presentation of the award winning "Before You Know It," through the film on demand service, GATHR Films. Currently pre-reserved tickets can be purchased to demonstrate support for the film's showing September 10 at the Chenal IMAX theater at 7:30pm  Tickets are only $10 per person.

However there's a little rub to this programming. In order to make this effort succeed all tickets must be purchased before the film will be shown. There are no tickets at the local box office only online at http://bit.ly/1yCEWQr .  Got it. Go to this site and get your tickets.  In the meantime, as a public service, COP 24/7 is challenging all local groups to consider buying a block of tickets to offer to some gay elders that would enjoy this film while in like minded company.

This forum doesn't know exactly what the advertising campaign looked liked for this event, but we're doing what we can to support it. The film hits home as a "man of a certain" age who is well aware of the generational gaps that occur in the LGBTQ construct. Even as the "equality flags unfurl," unfortunately within the gay community, often times older gay men and women feel isolated or even feel left behind. Its an important issue that will be covered more on this forum and all media platforms that we work with. In closing, just so you know, "I'm getting older, but I'm oh so better about it." Check out PFLAG's Facebook post and don't forget to like our site as well. Do it today!!

What Did they Say?
The Talking Out Loud of FACEBOOK

Facebook LogoSurely you've seen it and thought to yourself? "WTF," were they thinking for posting this or that on Facebook. Even with filtering and or other company policing, as far as we are concerned its just about out of hand and often time goes into that "TMI" zone.  Even though COP 24/7 has a digital presence on this behemoth, which now has some compelling factoids as follows:

651,835,100 million active users on facebook. There are over 900 million objects ( pages groups events and community pages). There are more than 250 million active users currently accessing Facebook through their mobile devices

People on Facebook
  • More than 600 million active users
  • 50% of our active users log on to Facebook in any given day
  • Average user has 130 friends
  • People spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook
Activity on Facebook
  • There are over 900 million objects that people interact with (pages, groups, events and community pages)
  • Average user is connected to 80 community pages, groups and events
  • Average user creates 90 pieces of content each month
  • More than 30 billion pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photo albums, etc.) shared each month.
And this is just the tip of its digital spear. The conversations on this social media town square can range from the mundane to the outrageous. I've seen folks actually post their post surgery pictures which caused me to ponder why? And the insipid rants, raves and ridiculous musing of what appear to be the many needy and melodramatic queens who need to vent their latest life disappointment. It doesn't stop there as there are now even FB catty fights or outbreaks that even involve some politicos such as Sen. Jason Rapert who has waged a tirade of wingnut talk that cause COP 24/7 to hit our "We're Crazy," button.

It seems that almost anything and damn near anything from seeking cash assistance to folks calling out their bad penny relationship. It just goes on  and on and who knows where any of this will end. Well you also have to admit that there is also some usefulness in which certain causes, fund raising or other call to actions can utilize the platform. Therefore It seems that you have to take the good with the bad.

In the meantime, COP 24/7 want to encourage our readers to check out our Facebook page and "like" us. Then you can continue to enjoy the mayhem and daily does of Facebook tomfoolery.

And now for this commercial moment...

This hit the inbox with great interest and curiosity to say the least. So we are off to further investigate just what's up with this "community advisory board," and exactly what is its purpose. Stay tuned next week as COP 24/7 spins the information big wheel including some insightful "throw back" content that needs a dust off and another look at.  Come on back...you will not want to miss it.
