Snap, Crackle and Pop in the USA

What a hell of week its been for me, you and all of our "six degrees" of separation that rolls in numerous directions. I didn't want to use that tired adage that I use from to time to time that the "world seems like it was going to hell in a hand basket." It was a daily display of talking heads, competing press conferences, bold headlines, shrieking breaking news updates, hand wringing and so on and so forth. It just seemed like it was going round and round and no one was sure where it was going to stop. However as usual the Big Wheel of Life shakes us all up often and each and everyday its a new challenge to make it work while living in America. With all that has taken place, this forum has continued to offer you our snapshot of it all, the snap, crackle and pop in the USA.

OBAMARAMA vs The Obstructionist Gangstas

It was down to the wire for the Obama Administration during the most recent Clash of the Titans in Washington D.C. over raising the debt ceiling to protect that "full faith and credit of the United States."  Since this gully washer passed over, every body's got an opinion on the "winners and losers" of this latest government skirmish. No matter how you look at it, actually we all are losers in the long run when our elected officials both Democrat and Republican go to the extreme to filibuster or sand bag the President from governing. Through it all what's been demonstrated to the world and I agree with CNN's  Fareed Zakaria that polarized politics and dysfunctional government have become the order of the day. Even as the power plays came and went in my opinion the country still suffered a black eye and a bitch slap to go with it. A Trillion here, a Trillion there, and damn it, a Trillion every where has the average Americans head spinning as they worried about whether the debt ceiling mess was going to impair them from their benefits. Meanwhile, since the reprieve has been announced, we now learn that some of this "manufactured" crisis simply got a glossy make over that will allow our system to "kick the can" down the road a bit until it becomes another nail biter. So exactly what do we get for all this back and forth? It seems that we get a voluminous budget that not only would take days to read, but once read you're not sure exactly what you've read. Why can't our leaders fathom the possibility of having a budget that has both cuts and viable revenue sources. Is it really that hard to come to the conclusion that both are needed to get the car out of the ditch. Unfortunately, we've created a system of outlays that may not be sustainable and every program needs a look over including the defense budget which has increased over the last 13 years topping out at a whopping $250 Billion. Yes that's Billion with a big fat ass "B!"  In the meantime, there has been not enough real indictment of any of those hedge fund con artist, banking institutions that tripped the light fantastic with mortgages, Wall Street folk who bounced "derivatives" around without anyone really knowing their impact, there's Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae tomfoolery and finally all those off shore tax havens with vaults of cash sitting out of Uncle Sam's reach. Ladies and Gents, the sky is not falling but rather disregard for checks and balances plus a big dose of getting real about what's really going on. Note to readers: stay vigilant, keep watching, call them out and oh yeah don't forget to register to vote!!

AETN's Out IN AMERICA

Remember back in June when COP 24/7 went asking about the documentary "OUT in America." At that time it seem that this neck of the woods would not be afforded a chance to see this program. However it seems that all is not lost and if this forum had anything to do with that change of mindset, we are willing to take any credit allowed. On August 7 at 10:30 pm ( check you local listings) the program will be featured after a great lead in from the iconic, one and only Barbra Streisand's Village Vanguard concert. Alright readers, if you are not members of AETN here's a chance to show some support and let them know that we appreciate the programming. Go to www.aetn.org  for membership information.
